photography & Uncertainty

I selected these videos because they seemed the  most interesting by the titles. I've always been interested in photography so I wanted to learn more. I thought it was weird how the title mentions photography but I felt as though painting was discussed a lot more. I did like how Hockney took a bunch of photos with the paintings to make  a larger photo. In  the modernity and Art I enjoyed watching how they talked about pop star art and the uncertainty of it. I must say that I did like the Uncertainty video better because it focused more on everyday life and topics that are more interesting.

Mask Creation

These are my inspiration. I chose these masks because they are colorful and they all have designs in them that catch your eye. My favorite is the last mask because it looks like the mask is crying.
It also has pretty colors that work well together. The lines make this piece unique. The middle mask shows great emphasis on the edges that looks like a butterfly. The first mask has an emphasis on the forehead, mouth, and eyes. Which I like because it looks very different and makes your eyes wonder.

This is my mask. I chose to rip the paper to give it texture. I decided to color in the top of the mask to give it variation of color. I used lines throughout the mask to give it "length" folded the mask in half to create a 3 dimensional shape.  I enjoyed making this mask because it allowed me to be creative and think outside of the box.

African Art

Being African American I wanted to dig deep into the different elements of African Art. My mother has a lot of African Art in her house so I thought it would be neat to explore the different types and learn a little about the background. I learn that symbolism is most important when it comes to African Art and that the resemblance to humans, animals, and nature aren't really in comparison. This artwork is based of of mental perception rather than the visible object. Also, since Africa is so diverse in their artwork, the meanings can vary depending on where they are.
In the Legacy of Oppression video I liked how they talked about how culture was misunderstood and how it's all about the nature of existence.
I liked the African art better than the Legacy of Oppression because I felt as though I was learning more about the perceptions of art and not a history lesson.
