Here is the photograph of myself.
Inspiration 1- Portrait of baby de Almeida -Noemmia Mouroa 1942
Inspiration 2- Female Portrait-Ramon Pichot i Soler 1964
Inspiration 3-Portrait of a Woman, Said to be Anne Catherine- Elisabeth Vigee Le Brun 1803
I chose these as inspiration because besides the fact that I wanted a woman, I thought all these were really nice and they show the woman being more serious and fashion with what shes wearing on her head. These pieces represent me because they show women who have spunk and are classy. I chose to use pen for my media because I love pen, I feel as though pens glide easily. I struggles with the shading the most when making my self portrait because it was a pen that I was using. I used elements such as lines, emphasis (on the head) and shape. I enjoyed working on this piece because I love seeing the end results. When making portraits, I always think I'm doing a good job when I'm doing each individual piece of the portrait, but when I look at the entire thing I always find it funny when I look at the whole thing.

Last post. Module 16
When I looked back at my first post, I can still relate to it. I still believe that art comes in different forms, but I now can view art in a different way now that I know the different elements that are in art. I look at art differently in that sense. My expectations were to learn more about the different forms of art and also the different artists because at first I did not have a favorite artist. Art to me is an expression from an individual is made up of different elements that create something that is thought or emotion provoking.
In my original post, I did not have a favorite artist, now my favorite artist is Michelangelo because I'm infatuated with his sculptures.
I have taken online courses before but never an art course. I would definitely take another art online course in the future because it was not overwhelming.

thirteen&fourteen
In the lowdown on lowbrow video I enjoyed seeing the pop art of the west coast and the cool artwork that they showed. I think this reflects back to the creation of the art exhibits that we created because it shows how they had a certain theme and they thought outside the box. Its basically a subculture inside of the art culture.
In Acquiring Mind video, I enjoyed learning more about the director of the Metropolitan museum of art. I was intrigued when they spoke about Philippe de Montebello past and how he came about. I think this relates to the project that we did because it shows you things that you need to be able to do to run a successful exhibit.

Art Exhibition Curator
I enjoyed making this mock art exhibition. I was something that I never thought I would do and it challenged me to get creative in a way that I have never been before. I decided to have a theme that was focused on texture. I love seeing texture in artwork and If I were to ever own an exhibit it would be something similar to that. I wanted to show that there is texture in different themes in art. Meaning, I chose different pieces that has similar elements but show different things. I chose pieces that show texture through painting fabric/drapes, texture through nature (trees, water, etc.) and texture through the human body (veins in skin, facial expression, muscle).

photography & Uncertainty
I selected these videos because they seemed the most interesting by the titles. I've always been interested in photography so I wanted to learn more. I thought it was weird how the title mentions photography but I felt as though painting was discussed a lot more. I did like how Hockney took a bunch of photos with the paintings to make a larger photo. In the modernity and Art I enjoyed watching how they talked about pop star art and the uncertainty of it. I must say that I did like the Uncertainty video better because it focused more on everyday life and topics that are more interesting.

Mask Creation
These are my inspiration. I chose these masks because they are colorful and they all have designs in them that catch your eye. My favorite is the last mask because it looks like the mask is crying.
It also has pretty colors that work well together. The lines make this piece unique. The middle mask shows great emphasis on the edges that looks like a butterfly. The first mask has an emphasis on the forehead, mouth, and eyes. Which I like because it looks very different and makes your eyes wonder.
This is my mask. I chose to rip the paper to give it texture. I decided to color in the top of the mask to give it variation of color. I used lines throughout the mask to give it "length" folded the mask in half to create a 3 dimensional shape. I enjoyed making this mask because it allowed me to be creative and think outside of the box.

African Art
Being African American I wanted to dig deep into the different elements of African Art. My mother has a lot of African Art in her house so I thought it would be neat to explore the different types and learn a little about the background. I learn that symbolism is most important when it comes to African Art and that the resemblance to humans, animals, and nature aren't really in comparison. This artwork is based of of mental perception rather than the visible object. Also, since Africa is so diverse in their artwork, the meanings can vary depending on where they are.
In the Legacy of Oppression video I liked how they talked about how culture was misunderstood and how it's all about the nature of existence.
I liked the African art better than the Legacy of Oppression because I felt as though I was learning more about the perceptions of art and not a history lesson.

Leonardo & Michelangelo
I thought the mind of the renaissance video wasn't that interesting. The only thing I can relate to was when they stated the windows are the eyes of the soul. I chose this video because I thought it had a unique title. The Michelangelo video was a lot better. I enjoyed watching the lady trying to emulate a sketch. I have never been good at sketches so to me that was interesting to see how they are perfected. This video helped me understand sketches better, and I think I am going to practice them more, now that I have gained a little more knowledge.
Hand Sketch
While using my hand as the subject, I found it to be extremely difficult. At first I thought that I would be able to create this very easily, but as I kept going I realized that I have a difficult time making shadows. My "right hand" image was very hard because I'm right handed so I found it hard to control my hand. I wasn't able to use a pencil or charcoal but I was able to sketch them out with a pen. I used my favorite/ smoothest pen that I have to create this image. I don't think these are successful images because I had difficulty getting the right angles. I'm not a drawer, and it shows... :( I wouldn't use my non-dominant hand in the future.

The Greek Awakening
I thought this video was very interesting. One thing that really stood out to me was when they talked about the Parthenon and how the columns were built. Also, how the columns would eventually meet together if your projected them high enough. I chose this video because the title seemed as if I was going to learn some new things about art in the 5th century and I did. I enjoyed this video. I definitely helped bring the chapter full circle(helped me understand it better).
The more human than human video was cool and helped me realize that art can be seen in different ways. A key concept I thought was interesting in this particular video was how they stated humans rarely create "human art" that's realistic. I liked watching this video, I actually think I might like this video the most out of all of them.

Architecture
I never realized how cool architecture was and how It could be considered art until the In the Frank Gehry: Architecture as Art video. I thought it was interesting how the different building/forms were made that made them so beautiful. I was very interested in getting all the different art pieces Frank has contributed in in Los Angeles because I will be traveling there in November. I like the fact that they mentioned September 11th and described how it was going to change the work of artists. I enjoyed watching this film because there was a point in my life when I considered becoming an architect.
In the science of design video wind tunnel micro climatic research was very interesting. I never knew it took research like such to help design a building. What blew my mind was when they stated that they plant trees in certain spots to help the building stay strong. I definitely liked this video the best because I learned a lot while watching it.
I chose these two films because in my opinion the seemed like more of the "introductory videos for architecture and art.

sculpting, glass, and ceramics
Some key concepts that I thought were interesting in the sculpting video was how the sculptor Emmanuel decided to move away from his homeland to "find himself" I thought it was interesting that he decided to go to California out of all places. Also, I thought it was very informative how they discussed working on a sculpture as a team. I was not aware that not one person worked on 1 sculpture. Now that they have mentioned this, it makes sense because they all specialize in different things.
In the glass and ceramics video I thought it was ceramics section was very interesting. I've taken a ceramics class before so I was aware of a lot of the things that they mentioned, however, I was NOT aware (or maybe missed this in class) of how different temperatures determine the quality. The process of making the plates was also informative.
Based off of the films, I learned a lot more than I thought I would. I learned more about the processes in making things. In my opinion the book didn't go into depth how the videos did.

Peer review
Caitlin
Caitlin project 1
These photos were pretty cool. I liked how she used photos from her own home. The ironing board was a good idea for balance because it has showed good symmetry. Her art selections from the Albright Knox were very cool. I noticed that she had the shark girl collection in the ones that impacted her and I could totally agree with how she was able to make a personal connection with it.
Dorian
This blogger showed the same interest as myself when picking out photos. I noticed we had 2 that were in common, but we had different reasons why we liked them. They looked more from a visual point of view and I looked from a personal point of view through experiences. This person had the same "Cinema" piece as I did in this project. I was amazed with how they looked at the piece and analyzed it better than I did. They were able to notice a few things about the piece that I didn't notice when I went such as the bench being a part of the artwork.
I didn't see any other images that my peers chose that I didn't recognize myself as being interesting. I enjoyed looking into my peers work because so far this semester I have been so focused on my own work that I haven't taken the time to visit other blogs and see the things that they've created. After reading one of the comments from Hannah Dunlap, it made me happy to see that she enjoyed my perspective on things. I was excited to see that the photos resignated with her as well.

Logo design
Logo Desgin
For my logo I decided to free hand it on my touchscreen HP laptop. I used a variety of colors that I feel represented my personality. I am very positive and upbeat so I chose to choose a variety of yellows. I realized that in the beginning I chose grey to be the background which was kind of funny because I usually don't have "dark days" and I couldn't figure out what would prompt me to choose a grey sky instead of a blue one.... I thought the videos were interesting and gave me inspiration/ really got me thinking about what to create. I loved seeing the different ideas that were created during the videos and the thought processes.
FINAL
After visiting the art gallery, the pieces of art that had the most impact on me where these because they each reminded me of a point and time in my life that I find significant.
Most impactful:

These were the most impactful because they opened my eyes to how big the world is. In the Niagara piece I was taken aback by the way the artist captured the true vision of the piece. It is so similar/ spot on to the actual falls and I felt as if the artist really did a good job.
The 1st one gives you a sense of how BIG the world is. Sometimes we forget how big buildings are around us and how small we are in the world/ universe and I think the artist did a good job at capturing that an helping us come back to reality and remembering that. The buildings are very large compared to the people in this painting. And I think the exaggeration works well.
Both the pieces make you realize how beautiful our world is and how big and diverse it is around the world.
I feel the 2 that I had the biggest connection with were these.

The first one really struck home with me because it instantly reminded me of my best friend. Moving from Florida to go to school in NY was hard mainly because of the people I had to leave behind. The name of this piece is called "stay with me" and It brought back a lot of memories.
The second one reminded me of when I was a dancer when I was younger. Growing up it was a big part of my life and this also brought back memories of life changing moments in my life. Being a dancer taught me commitment and how to push myself.
The ones I was not so sure about were these.

For some reason I thought both of these were beautiful and brought emotion and I was very curious as to what the Artists were thinking when they made these pieces. I would love to know more about the background of these pieces and how they got their inspiration for them.

I enjoyed creating this color wheel and value scale. My favorite was the color wheel because I love working with paint. But...I did discover that it was rather hard to get exact color with my color wheel because I noticed the magenta color that I had was more baby pink than magenta. Also, the yellow I had looked a little more pale than what I thought it would be. I think my color wheel turned out very nice despite the fact that the middle ended up being more gray than black because of the pale colors. In the video on how to create a value scale I felt as though my version turned out so amateur compared to the artist on the video. I found it a little hard at first.

It has been FOREVER since I have used my digital camera and after looking FOREVER for it I was finally able to complete this project. This project was a lot of fun. I first started out with nature and tried to capture some photos that related to the principles and elements from driving around alone. I came across elements and principles such as value, line, balance, rhythm, movement, emphasis, space, and proportion. When I went to a store called Pier 1 Imports I came across elements/principles such as form, variety, harmony, texture, shape and color. I thought it was kind of hard to find a couple of them such as balance and value. But it was extremely easy to find things such as color and texture.

Emotions and color
Color can uncontrollably affect us. Depending on the color and the combination of colors they can make you feel a certain way. Some colors, such as in June's canvas can be inharmonious and make it seen more violent. Vincent Van Gogh used color to express himself. He clashed colors together to show his distaste for something.
The biggest impact that the color video made on me was when June walks outside to view her painting from a distance. This caught my eye because I felt as if her painting was amazing and I loved the fact that she had a lot of blues and red. June mentioned that she hated it for the same reason why I loved it and I felt as if this is a true moment where you can see how color can effect an individuals emotions.
Usually bright vibrant colors are most intriguing to me because I have a personality that is very bubbly and adventurous and I feel as if vibrant colors are most appealing.
In the feelings: Emotions and Art video the one thing I felt that caught my attention was when they mention a certain chapel in Italy where the artist intensified the feelings just from the lighting and shading of the painting. One specific shape can create a compete opposite feeling.

- Some of the key concepts in the philosophy of art video that resignated with me were:
- "beauty and the good are one in the same, and the origin of both are god"- I thought this was interesting
- Hutchinson thought on beauty and harmony
I thought Plato's (4th century B.C.) thought on "there is a beauty in thought that all things are beautiful" was important to me because I like to look at things that way. I always try to keep a positive energy and I think if you see beauty in everything it's easier to do that and it's easier to accept things for what they are. I also felt as though his thought was important because i think it's important for people to know that art is important and artists matter and that there is art in writing poetry.
If i'm correct, Changeux stated that art was created by our brains and the evolution of the brains from our ancestors (consciously/ unconsciously.) Ramachandran believes that art is created in the human brain and that there is a science to art. I definitely connected more with Ramachandran because he reminded me of myself. I never thought of art as something powerful until recently when I moved to buffalo.
Some key things that resignated with me in this video was when Ramachandran stated that the point of art is to distort or exaggerate the image on person to please the human brain.
another thing that was a key thing to me from this video was the 8 laws of art/aesthetics because I never thought of art in that way.
I enjoyed reading the CNN article because it was straight to the point. When the author mentioned the Mona Lisa smile, I was super excited because I have always wanted to know why exactly my brain felt as though she was smirking at me. Another thing that i thought was pretty interesting was when the author talks about symmetry and how we find it appealing because I remember hearing years ago the the most attractive people in the world have almost perfect symmetrical faces, and I always thought that was very interesting to see them break down symmetry in this article.

1. How was the process of creating the GMail account and setting up the Blog?
This process was quite difficult to set up. I've never had a blog and i'm actually excited to see if I will like this.
2. What do you expect to learn in this course?
I expect to learn more about the different styles in art.
3. How do you feel about taking an online course?
I've always loved online courses, however this is the first time I have every done an online while being enrolled as a full time student.
4. What three things in the Growth Mindset (from Step 3) videos do you believe most apply to you?
One of the things that I feel applied with me was when the guy in the beginning was describing adjusting to Buffalo his freshman year. I am from Florida so not only did I have to adjust to a bigger campus (previously went to a community college) but I had to adjust to the weather mostly. Fortunately my roommates that I was paid with my first semester here have become great friends of mine and I don't feel so scared anymore.
The second thing that I agreed with was how one guy mentioned that managing his time and work load wasn't as hard as he thought it was going to be. Personally I was scared that this experience was going to be overwhelming because I was working 25 hours a week and also going to school full time. These past semesters have been a breeze because I had self control and good time managing skills.
The last thing that i agreed with was having things pay off in the future. Since I have been at Buff state I have made the deans list, and got nominated for the national leadership and success
