Leonardo & Michelangelo

I thought the mind of the renaissance video wasn't that interesting. The only thing I can relate to was when they stated the windows are the eyes of the soul. I chose this video because I thought it had a unique title. The Michelangelo video was a lot better. I enjoyed watching the lady trying to emulate a sketch. I have never been good at sketches so to me that was interesting to see how they are perfected.  This video helped me understand sketches better, and I think I am going to practice them more, now that I have gained a little more knowledge.

Hand Sketch

While using my hand as the subject, I found it to be extremely difficult. At first I thought that I would be able to create this very easily, but as I kept going I realized that I have a difficult time making shadows. My "right hand" image was very hard because I'm right handed so I found it hard to control my hand. I wasn't able to use a pencil or charcoal but I was able to sketch them out with a pen. I used my favorite/ smoothest pen that I have to create this image. I don't think these are successful images because I had difficulty getting the right angles. I'm not a drawer, and it shows... :( I wouldn't use my non-dominant hand in the future.

The Greek Awakening

I thought this video was very interesting. One thing that really stood out to me was when they talked about the Parthenon and how the columns were built. Also, how the columns would eventually meet together if your projected them high enough. I chose this video because the title seemed as if I was going to learn some new things about art in the 5th century and I did. I enjoyed this video. I definitely helped bring the chapter full circle(helped me understand it better).

The more human than human video was cool and helped me realize that art can be seen in different ways. A key concept I thought was interesting in this particular video was how they stated humans rarely create "human art" that's realistic. I liked watching this video, I actually think I might like this video the most out of all of them.

Architecture

I never realized how cool architecture was and how It could be considered art until the In the Frank Gehry: Architecture as Art video. I thought it was interesting how the different building/forms were made that made them so beautiful. I was very interested in getting all the different art pieces Frank has contributed in in Los Angeles because I will be traveling there in November. I like the fact that they mentioned September 11th and described how it was going to change the work of artists. I enjoyed watching this film because there was a point in my life when I considered becoming an architect.

In the science of design video wind tunnel micro climatic research was very interesting. I never knew it took research like such to help design a building. What blew my mind was when they stated that they plant trees in certain spots to help the building stay strong. I definitely liked this video the best because I learned a lot while watching it.
I chose these two films because in my opinion the seemed like more of the "introductory videos for architecture and art.

sculpting, glass, and ceramics

Some key concepts that I thought were interesting in the sculpting video was how the sculptor Emmanuel decided to move away from his homeland to "find himself" I thought it was interesting that he decided to go to California out of all places. Also, I thought it was very informative how they discussed working on a sculpture as a team. I was not aware that not one person worked on 1 sculpture. Now that they have mentioned this, it makes sense because they all specialize in different things.

In the glass and ceramics video I thought it was ceramics section was very interesting. I've taken a ceramics class before so I was aware of a lot of the things that they mentioned, however, I was NOT aware (or maybe missed this in class) of how different temperatures determine the quality. The process of making the plates was also informative.

Based off of the films, I learned a lot more than I thought I would. I learned more about the processes in making things. In my opinion the book didn't go into depth how the videos did.

Peer review

Caitlin
Caitlin project 1

These photos were pretty cool. I liked how she used photos from her own home. The ironing board was a good idea for balance because it has showed good symmetry. Her art selections from the Albright Knox were very cool. I noticed that she had the shark girl collection in the ones that impacted her and I could totally agree with how she was able to make a personal connection with it.

Dorian
This blogger showed the same interest as myself when picking out photos. I noticed we had 2 that were in common, but we had different reasons why we liked them. They looked more from a visual point of view and I looked from a personal point of view through experiences. This person had the same "Cinema" piece as I did in this project. I was amazed with how they looked at the piece and analyzed it better than I did. They were able to notice a few things about the piece that I didn't notice when I went such as the bench being a part of the artwork.

I didn't see any other images that my peers chose that I didn't recognize myself as being interesting. I enjoyed looking into my peers work because so far this semester I have been so focused on my own work that I haven't taken the time to visit other blogs and see the things that they've created. After reading one of the comments from Hannah Dunlap, it made me happy to see that she enjoyed my perspective on things. I was excited to see that the photos resignated with her as well.
