Here is the photograph of myself.
Inspiration 1- Portrait of baby de Almeida -Noemmia Mouroa 1942
Inspiration 2- Female Portrait-Ramon Pichot i Soler 1964
Inspiration 3-Portrait of a Woman, Said to be Anne Catherine- Elisabeth Vigee Le Brun 1803

I chose these as inspiration because besides the fact that I wanted a woman, I thought all these were really nice and they show the woman being more serious and fashion with what shes wearing on her head. These pieces represent me because they show women who have spunk and are classy. I chose to use pen for my media because I love pen, I feel as though pens glide easily. I struggles with the shading the most when making my self portrait because it was a pen that I was using. I used elements such as lines, emphasis (on the head) and shape. I enjoyed working on this piece because I love seeing the end results. When making portraits, I always think I'm doing a good job when I'm doing each individual piece of the portrait, but when I look at the entire thing I always find it funny when I look at the whole thing.

Last post. Module 16

When I looked back at my first post, I can still relate to it. I still believe that art comes in different forms, but I now can view art in a different way now that I know the different elements that are in art. I look at art differently in that sense. My expectations were to learn more about the different forms of art and also the different artists because at first I did not have a favorite artist. Art to me is an expression from an individual is made up of different elements that create something that is thought or emotion provoking.
In my original post, I did not have a favorite artist, now my favorite artist is Michelangelo because I'm infatuated with his sculptures.
I have taken online courses before but never an art course. I would definitely take another art online course in the future because it was not overwhelming.

thirteen&fourteen

In the lowdown on lowbrow video I enjoyed seeing the pop art of the west coast and the cool artwork that they showed. I think this reflects back to the creation of the art exhibits that we created because it shows how they had a certain theme and they thought outside the box. Its basically a subculture inside of the art culture.
In Acquiring Mind video, I enjoyed learning more about the director of the Metropolitan museum of art. I was intrigued when they spoke about Philippe de Montebello past and how he came about. I think this relates to the project that we did because it shows you things that you need to be able to do to run a successful exhibit.

The "tate Modern" video was not working...

Art Exhibition Curator

I enjoyed making this mock art exhibition. I was something that I never thought I would do and it challenged me to get creative in a way that I have never been before. I decided to have a theme that was focused on texture. I love seeing texture in artwork and If I were to ever own an exhibit it would be something similar to that. I wanted to show that there is texture in different themes in art. Meaning, I chose different pieces that has similar elements but show different things. I chose pieces that show texture through painting fabric/drapes, texture through nature (trees, water, etc.) and texture through the human body (veins in skin, facial expression, muscle).

photography & Uncertainty

I selected these videos because they seemed the  most interesting by the titles. I've always been interested in photography so I wanted to learn more. I thought it was weird how the title mentions photography but I felt as though painting was discussed a lot more. I did like how Hockney took a bunch of photos with the paintings to make  a larger photo. In  the modernity and Art I enjoyed watching how they talked about pop star art and the uncertainty of it. I must say that I did like the Uncertainty video better because it focused more on everyday life and topics that are more interesting.

Mask Creation

These are my inspiration. I chose these masks because they are colorful and they all have designs in them that catch your eye. My favorite is the last mask because it looks like the mask is crying.
It also has pretty colors that work well together. The lines make this piece unique. The middle mask shows great emphasis on the edges that looks like a butterfly. The first mask has an emphasis on the forehead, mouth, and eyes. Which I like because it looks very different and makes your eyes wonder.

This is my mask. I chose to rip the paper to give it texture. I decided to color in the top of the mask to give it variation of color. I used lines throughout the mask to give it "length" folded the mask in half to create a 3 dimensional shape.  I enjoyed making this mask because it allowed me to be creative and think outside of the box.

African Art

Being African American I wanted to dig deep into the different elements of African Art. My mother has a lot of African Art in her house so I thought it would be neat to explore the different types and learn a little about the background. I learn that symbolism is most important when it comes to African Art and that the resemblance to humans, animals, and nature aren't really in comparison. This artwork is based of of mental perception rather than the visible object. Also, since Africa is so diverse in their artwork, the meanings can vary depending on where they are.
In the Legacy of Oppression video I liked how they talked about how culture was misunderstood and how it's all about the nature of existence.
I liked the African art better than the Legacy of Oppression because I felt as though I was learning more about the perceptions of art and not a history lesson.
